A bit more about me
I’m Alex—a scientist by training, a writer by inclination, and a Ph.D. holder who has spent a considerable amount of time navigating the space between confidence and doubt. I’ve built much of my life in science, but I’m equally drawn to conversations that people often avoid: religion, politics, identity, ambition, and failure.
Alongside those heavier themes, I’m interested in the absurd, the mundane, and the quietly human moments that make up daily life. From grappling with imposter syndrome to caring for a stubborn, overweight orange cat named Busker, this is a record of lived experience in its full range—polished and unpolished alike.
Progress does not require complete confidence. It requires movement.
The parts do not need to become a pitch
Scientific training shaped how I ask questions and live with uncertainty. Teaching made me more attentive to people, language, and the distance between explaining something and helping someone understand it. Creative work reminds me that not everything valuable begins with an optimization problem.
I do think in systems. That is real. But it is one lens among many—not a costume I need to wear everywhere, and not the organizing principle for an entire life.
What this site is
A collection of writing and work at the intersection of science, learning, identity, creativity, and ordinary life. The goal is not to prescribe solutions or perform certainty. It is to pay attention, make things, and share what I’m learning while it is still taking shape.
